Coin Purchase Evaluations in Northwest Arkansas
What we offer is a purchase evaluation, not a formal written appraisal. This page explains the difference so you can tell which one you actually need.
Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm · Appointment required
Two different things people call an “appraisal”
The word “appraisal” gets used for two very different needs. One is a buyer’s estimate of what your coins are worth to sell. The other is an independent, written valuation for paperwork. We do the first. For the second, you want a qualified formal appraiser. Here is how they compare.
What we provide
A purchase evaluation, in person, when you are considering a sale.
- We identify your coins and examine date, mintmark, and condition
- We weigh gold and silver for metal content
- We explain where the value lies and what we would offer
- You decide whether to sell — the evaluation is the starting point
What a formal appraiser provides
An independent, documented valuation for official use.
- A written report you can file or keep on record
- Valuations for insurance, probate, estate, or tax needs
- Independence from any purchase of the coins
- Credentials suited to the document’s purpose

How a purchase evaluation works
You bring your coins to Lowell by appointment. We go through them with you, identify what they are, and examine the details that matter — date, mintmark, condition, and metal content. Then we explain plainly where the value lies: collector interest, metal, or close to face value. If a purchase makes sense for both sides, we talk about that next.
We provide a purchase evaluation, not a formal written appraisal for insurance, probate, or tax purposes. If you need a written valuation, please work with a qualified formal appraiser.
Questions
Coin evaluations, answered
Do you provide formal written appraisals?
No. We provide a purchase evaluation while considering coins for sale. That is not a formal written appraisal for insurance, probate, estate, or tax purposes.
What is the difference between an evaluation and an appraisal?
A purchase evaluation is our estimate of what we would consider paying for coins we might buy. A formal appraisal is an independent, documented valuation prepared by a qualified appraiser, often for insurance, probate, or taxes.
When do I need a formal appraiser?
When someone needs a written valuation on file — for example an insurer, an estate representative, or a tax adviser. If you are asked for one, find out exactly what report is required, since that determines who should prepare it. A purchase evaluation from a buyer is a different thing.
What should I bring for a purchase evaluation?
Bring the coins you are considering selling, along with any holders, sets, inventories, or grading papers. Keep coins uncleaned and sets together so nothing is lost before the evaluation.
